Netflix Necrocapitalism & The House of Usher with Jane Hu & Phillip Maciak

Launching a new miniseries on corporate allegory and business melodrama.

A new season on corporate allegory, business melodrama, and new releases from academic presses kicks off with a discussion of the recent Mike Flanagan adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall Of The House of Usher” for Netflix.

Jane Hu is currently completing a Humanities Society of Fellows postdoc at University of Southern California, where she will become an Assistant Professor of English next year. She is an assistant editor at n+1 and recently joined the staff of the Book World section at the Washington Post.

Phillip Maciak is Senior Lecturer in English & American Culture Studies at Washington University in St. Louis and the author of Avidly Reads Screen Time (NYU Press, 2023) as well as TV critic for The New Republic.

Matt Seybold is Associate Professor of American Literature & Mark Twain Studies at Elmira College, resident scholar at the Center For Mark Twain Studies, and executive producer of The American Vandal Podcast.
