"Criticism LTD," Cultural Keynesianism, & The Stereograph with Money On The Left
A role reversal.
In December, I recorded a lengthy conversation with Scott Ferguson and Rob Hawkes for their podcast, Money On The Left, the official podcast of the Money On The Left Editorial Collective, as well as a partner of Monthly Review Online, the digital-first vertical of the long-running socialist magazine started by F.O. Matthiessen and Paul Sweezy.
The MOTL Collective advocates for socio-cultural approaches to Modern Monetary Theory and although I would not call myself an MMT stalwart, I’m not hostile to it, recognizing it essentially as a derivative of late Keynes. We talk at some length about my idiosyncratic Keynesianism in the episode, as well as contemporary Literature & Economics scholarship.
However, the bulk of the episode is dedicated to discussion of “Criticism LTD.” Some of it will be familiar to those of you who already listened to the series (Rob and Scott’s stated objective was to get their listeners to check it out). But in the back half of the episode especially my hosts raised some really interesting questions about process, medium, reception, etc., much of which I have not addressed elsewhere.
